This term we are continuing our topic ‘WE ARE WHAT WE EAT!’ We have already shown great interest and resilience when tasting new foods, and we visited Gazegill Farm, where we got to see the production of milk from cow to bottle.
Gazegill Farm also provided a fantastic opportunity to meet various farm animals as well as hunt for minibeasts and plant chive plants from seeds - which we got to take home and grow ourselves! Has your chive plant started to grow yet?
Over this half term we are exploring what a healthy and balanced diet is, finding out how to plan, make and evaluate a healthy fruit pizza, learning about our sense of taste and discovering whereabouts in the world our food comes from.
In English we are looking at instructions - in particular, recipes inspired by the book ‘Beware of Boys’ by Tony Blundell. The recipes are a little unusual but the children have enjoyed writing them so far. Would you like to make girl or boy soup? Ask your children about their own recipes!
For Maths, we are working on missing number problems, polygons, column addition and subtraction, word problems and data interpretation when presented in a grid or bar chart!
Ways to help your child at home
- Read as much as you can with your child – every day if possible!
- Practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
- Practise number bonds (e.g. 8 + 6 = 14, 5 + 7 = 12, 12 – 3 = 9).
- Play games to practise the Year 1 and Year 2 tricky word spellings.
- If you can, please discuss with your child the work they have done as the term progresses and let them teach you!
General class information
Yellow home/school book
We send homework every week for you and your child to complete together. Books are sent home on a Friday and should be completed and returned every Wednesday.
Year 1/Year 2 key words
In the homework pack, you will find a list of key words that children need to learn by the end of Year 2, so any practice at home will help!
PE days: Monday and Tuesday
Healthy Snacks - Fruit
Please do not send any snacks into school as we provide each child with a piece of fruit.
Each day at school, the children meet together for an assembly. On Friday afternoons we have a Celebration Assembly when we share the children’s celebrations or special work. Parents are invited to this assembly at 2.45pm. Two children are chosen each week to receive a certificate. If your child is one of these, we will notify you on the Thursday to invite you to attend.
