“Bienvenue á Year 2!”
Here you’ll find Mr Burns, Mrs Cullen, Mrs Kushtar and a class full of enthusiastic learners! We’ve all settled well into our new Year 2 classroom and have already been exercising our brains to the max with our new IPC topic: Brainwaves.
Our brain is special because it does lots of amazing things. Once we understand how our brain works and what we can do to make it work even better, then we can improve the way that we learn.
We started our topic with a visit to Professor Sparks’ learning lab (our immersive space)! We got to investigate playdough brains, discovering what things our brains help us do!
We have also looked at how we improve a skill by practising! As such, we had to complete a cooperative learning challenge to practise our skill of team work!Professor Sparks has also been giving us clues and task to complete. Recently, we made Knowledge and Skill 3D glasses to help us see that when they are put together they make understanding!
Ways to help your child at home
• Read as much as you can with your child – every day if possible!
• Practise their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
• Play games to practise their Year 1 and Year 2 tricky word spellings.
• If you can, please discuss with your child the work they have done as the term progresses and let them teach you!
General class information
Yellow home/school book
We will be sending homework every week for you and your child to complete together. Books will be sent home on a Friday and should be completed and returned every Wednesday.
Year 1/Year 2 key words
In the homework pack, you will find a list of key words that children need to learn by the end of Year 2, so any practice at home will help!
PE days: Monday and Tuesday
Healthy Snacks - Fruit
Please do not send any snacks into school as the school will provide each child with a piece of fruit.
Each day at school all the children will meet together for an assembly. On Friday afternoon we have a Celebration Assembly when we share the children’s celebrations or special work. Parents are invited to this assembly at 2.45pm. Two children are chosen each week to receive a certificate. If your child is one of these, we will notify you on the Thursday to invite you to attend.
