This term our topic is (drum roll please…) ‘THE CIRCUS IS COMING TO TOWN!’
We have already visited the circus in our immersive space and watched Cirque du Soleil whilst eating popcorn and having drinks! We focused on our senses to discover what the circus is like, looking at the amazing skills the acrobats used.
We have also had our Circus Skills Day! We were introduced to and practised various skills that are performed in the circus. In particular, we looked at our personal goal of cooperation!
This half term, we are exploring the use of expressions and face art in the circus and finding out what circuses were like in the past, as well as planning and drawing a map of our own circus.
In English we have received a letter from Wallace and Gromit asking us to help them replace the explanation texts that were stolen for their Cracking Contraptions. We have been exploring what an explanation text is and finding out what contraptions Wallace has invented! Did you know about his ‘Snowman-o-tron’? We were thinking that we’d like to have one for when it snows next!
For Maths we are working on 2D and 3D shapes, partitioning, column addition and subtraction, word problems, and data interpretation when information is presented in a grid or a bar chart!
Ways to help your child at home
- Read as much as you can with your child – every day if possible!
- Practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables
- Practise number bonds (e.g. 8 + 6 = 14, 5 + 7 = 12, 12 – 3 = 9).
- Play games to practise the Year 1 and Year 2 tricky word spellings.
- If you can, please discuss with your child the work they have done as the term progresses and let them teach you!
General class information
Yellow home/school book
We send homework every week for you and your child to complete together. Books are sent home on a Friday and should be completed and returned every Wednesday.
Year 1/Year 2 key words
In the homework pack, you will find a list of key words that children need to learn by the end of Year 2, so any practice at home will help!
PE days: Monday and Tuesday
Healthy Snacks - Fruit
Please do not send any snacks into school as the school will provide each child with a piece of fruit.
Each day at school all the children meet together for an assembly. On Friday afternoon we have a Celebration Assembly when we share the children’s celebrations or special work. Parents are invited to this assembly at 2.45pm. Two children are chosen each week to receive a certificate. If your child is one of these, we will notify you on the Thursday to invite you to attend.
