Hello and welcome to Year 5!
TOPIC - As ever, the International Primary Curriculum has some exciting new challenges for the children. In our first topic, Out of Africa, we are learning about evolution and the early times of life on earth. The topic is largely Science-based and covers learning about classification and adaptation. For our International learning goals, we consider how superbugs can spread worldwide and why it’s important to prevent extinction of certain species. The children really enjoy their topic work and will be pleased to answer questions about their learning - feel free to ask them! A series of David Attenborough videos can be found on www.bbc.co.uk/nature, amongst other informative pages and articles.
PE – Please note that PE is on MONDAY and WEDNESDAY afternoons. Children must have their kits to be fully engaged in these sessions.
HOMEWORK – Homework is handed out each Friday and must be returned by the following Wednesday. There is a colour system: GREEN for on time, YELLOW for late hand in on Thursday and RED for not handed in or handed in on Friday. Please encourage the children to be green.
SPELLINGS – A list of all the key words for Year 5 and 6 has been sent home with every child. These are words the children are expected to be able to spell accurately by the end of Key Stage 2 - please encourage your child to practise them on an ongoing basis.
Piano day is Tuesday for those continuing to learn piano.
May we take this opportunity to say thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing the children being the best they can be over the coming months.
